We have our own type foundry at Letterpress Works, comprising a Monotype Super Caster and Monotype Composition Caster.
Both machines date from the 1970s, originally employed at the book printers Staples of Rochester, Kent.
We have named it The Hell-Box Letter Foundry. To printers of old the ‘hell-box’ was where all the broken and worn out type was thrown, ready to be smelted down into ingots and re-born into perfect new type. Describes what we do exactly!
